The

Athabasca Basin

Region Overview

In Canada, the Athabasca Basin that straddles the Alberta-Saskatchewan border is considered one of the most favorable places in the world for exploring and mining uranium.

The Athabasca Basin occupies an area of about 100,000 sq km in northern Saskatchewan accounts for approximately 30% of global primary uranium production,

This figure which is expected to increase significantly by the end of the decade with the Cigar Lake Deposit (Cameco (50.025%); AREVA subsidiary, COGEMA Resources Inc. (37.1%); Idemitsu Uranium Exploration Canada Ltd. (7.875%); TEPCO Resources Inc. (5.0%)) scheduled for production in 2007.

The Midwest project, managed by Cogema (69.16%) with Denison (25.17%) & OURD Canada (5.67%), will be milled at McClean Lake nearby, to produce 2600 t/yr uranium.

The next largest producers are Australia, Kazakhstan, Russia and Niger.

The first major uranium discovery in the Athabasca Basin was at Rabbit Lake in 1968. The Rabbit Lake Mine operated for 25 years producing 120 million lbs U3O8 by open-pit mining of several ore lenses.

In 1975, the richest open-pit deposit in the world was discovered at Key Lake. Over its 15-year life the Key Lake deposits produced more than 190 million lbs U3O8.

Since 1968, 18 deposits totaling over 1.4 billion pounds of uranium have been discovered in the region.

Mayson Lake, Mallen Lake and Moore Lake Projects

  • The Mayson Lake Project consists of 8 claims covering an area of approximately 52, 247 acres (211.4 km2), located near the Virgin River shear zone. The property is bordered by Cameco (TSX: CCO) on its adjacent Virgin River Project where in 2005 returned grades as high as 25.6% U3O8.

  • The 4,179 acres (16.9 km2) Mallen Lake Project is located approximately 20 km north of the Midwest Uranium Deposit which is owned by AREVA Resources Canada Inc. (PA: CEI), Denison Mines Corp. (AMX: DNN) (TSX: DML) and OURD Canada Co. Ltd. and hosts mineral resource grades averaging of 5.47% U3O8.

  • The 9,790 acres (39.6 km2) Moore Lake Project is located just north of Foster Lake and is bordered by JNR?s / Denison?s Moore Lake project to the NE.

Foster Lake Project

The Foster Lake Project comprises 115 claims covering an area of over 1,175,000 acres (4,701.1 km2).

The property borders AREVA?s (PA: CEI) past-producing Key Lake Mine, and Cameco?s (TSX: CCO) Cigar Lake mine is located on the NE of the western flank of the project.

The Foster Lake project also surrounds most of JNR Resources? (TSX-V: JNN) Way Lake project.

In a news release dated October 12, 2006 JNR Resources announced the results of two grab samples from its Way Lake project which assayed 40.1% and 48% U3O8.

Significantly, historical work on Foster Lake has yielded some 70 boulder train samples, with grades ranging from 5.79% to 7.17% U3O8. Two additional 20 kg grab samples from outcrops gave 0.10% and 0.27% U3O8.

The project also hosts historical drill indicated resources of 65,000 tons grading 0.19% U3O8 to a depth of 65 m.

These numbers are historical in nature, are not part of any recognized National Instrument 43-101 mineral resource or reserve categories, and should not be relied upon.
